The 1928 Ford Model A open-cab pickup is one we love to see

Because it combined the comfort of Ford’s leading sedan with truck usability – and it all gets to be enjoyed with true roadster fun. Today that diverse spirit lives in this complete example that would be an attraction at any vintage car show, truck show, or even parade.

The bold red paint looks great with the black fenders and black folding roof. While the pickup was one of the most utilitarian of the Model As, it also has the Deluxe dual fender-mounted spares. So you not only have great-looking wire wheels that match yellow but there’s also a full-size spare showcased on each side. This loves to show off its straightforward style with running board step plates, spare wheel covers, etched side wind wings, and yellow and red pinstripes. And we know you love the look of the real wood bed rails. They even match the beautiful lumber on the bed floor. The complete package has the right eye of a clean and complete truck with a finish and feel that’s better for the byways and parades rather than a museum.

There’s just something extra cool about an open-top pickup. So while the black roof looks good and fits nicely, we bet you’ll spend most of your time open to the world. No matter how you choose to motor, stepping inside this Ford will always feel like a time machine to 1928. The bench seats and door panels have been reupholstered to feel fresher, but they retain the vintage charm. Plus, the pinstriping on the dash and marble shifter ball add style without taking away from the classic atmosphere.

All Model As, even the trucks, got the same torque-filled 201 cubic-inch four-cylinder engine. That means maintenance and components are more accessible than you think on a 90+-year-old pickup. This runs and drives with the stout feeling that suggests decades of proper respect. The three-speed manual transmission is light and easy to master, and the four-wheel mechanical brakes are surprisingly effective given the Model A’s lightweight. So even if you haven’t driven one before, you’ll catch up quickly to what it’s like to have an authentic 1920s experience.
