The engine is a Goodwrench replacement crate 350 cubic inch V8 that makes all the right sounds thanks to a modest single exhaust system. With a great muscle car feel, the engine delivers a big dose of low-end torque befitting a truck, but cruises at high speeds without complaint. The engine bay is tidy and nicely maintained, with ancient engine enamel still clinging to the block and the original air cleaner up top. Routine maintenance has kept it in strong operating condition, and clean living certainly doesn’t hurt. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and easily, and the 10-bolt rear end is full of highway gears that make this El Camino as happy around town as on the interstate. It’s remarkably clean underneath, a result of it living in Texas all it’s life, and just in case you still want to use it as a truck, air shocks in back help keep the body level. Wire wheel covers add an upscale appeal and wear 215/70/14 whitewall radials all around.
