The 1931 Ford Model A pickup was a popular style because it combined the comfort of Ford’s main sedan with truck usability
Today that diverse spirit lives in this example with its artful lines and colorful style. So you know it would be an attraction at any vintage car show, truck show, or even parade.
The color theme on this one is awesome. At first, you notice a two-tone red with black fenders, but as you take a little more time, you see it’s really a triple-tone body with the top half of the cab in a darker maroon. Plus, the wire wheels correctly painted in yellow adds a fourth color to the package. It all has a glossy style that shows off the well-restored body. While the pickup was one of the most utilitarian of the Model As, it did come with the fender-mounted spare wire wheel, which was usually reserved for the Deluxe Ford models. And there are great details everywhere from the chrome double bumpers to the pinstripe done in wheel-matching yellow.
Step inside, and it feels like a time machine to 1931. That’s because all the major components feel correct and well restored, including the seat cover, door panels, and rubber floor mat. Even the glossy red dash looks great with the pinstripe accents. This carries the correct later design that gave the center instrument panel more real estate and an interesting textured feel. Speaking of texture, there’s no better feeling out there than grabbing an older four-spoke steering wheel and the sensation of having history literally in your hands.
All Model As, even the trucks, got the same torque-filled 201 cubic-inch four-cylinder engine. That means maintenance is easier than you would think on a 90+ year-old pickup. This kind of parts availability means a properly maintained one like this is a blast to drive. The three-speed manual transmission is light and easy to master, and the four-wheel mechanical brakes are surprisingly effective with the Model A’s light weight. You’ll find that this pickup keeps up with local traffic easily – especially because everyone slows down to get a better look at you anyway.
